Born and raised in New York, Kevin James was on familiar ground during the years he starred as delivery driver Doug Heffernan on The King of Queens. The comedy series also featured Leah Remini as his wife, Carrie Heffernan, and Jerry Stiller as her father, Arthur Spooner. Acting was not what James initially intended to pursue. He attended SUNY Cortland, where he played fullback on the football team while majoring in sports management. He realized this wasn't the right path for him after three years, and joined a community theater and improv group. It was on the comedy circuit that James met Ray Romano, which later led to him landing a recurring role on Romano's sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond. ©2023 Cornerstone Publishing Group Inc.
